TETA (Transport Education and Training Authority) is the official SETA responsible for ensuring quality training in the transport sector. A TETA-accredited driving instructor is qualified to deliver SETA-accredited training programmes aligned with unit standards such as:
50285: National Certificate in Professional Driving
123257 – Operate a Rigid Light Vehicle
123259 – Convey Dangerous Goods by Road
243666 – Meet the Requirements of Being a Safe Driver
To become a TETA-accredited driving instructor, you must meet the following criteria:
National Certificate: Professional Driving (NQF Level 3)
Grade 12 Certificate / Standard 10
Minimum of 3–5 years driving experience (with proof)
Valid driver's licence (K53 – all codes)
Defensive driving certification (advantageous)
Medically Fit (G1-K1 Clearance)
Computer Literacy (MS Office)
TETA Statement of Results or Certificates
To assess learners in an official capacity, you must also complete the unit standard:
US 115753 – Conduct Outcomes-Based Assessment
This qualification allows you to register as an assessor with TETA and work within accredited training providers like LWTS.
