What Is a TETA-Accredited Driving Instructor?

TETA (Transport Education and Training Authority) is the official SETA responsible for ensuring quality training in the transport sector. A TETA-accredited driving instructor is qualified to deliver SETA-accredited training programmes aligned with unit standards such as:

  • 50285: National Certificate in Professional Driving

  • 123257 – Operate a Rigid Light Vehicle

  • 123259 – Convey Dangerous Goods by Road

  • 243666 – Meet the Requirements of Being a Safe Driver

Minimum Requirements

To become a TETA-accredited driving instructor, you must meet the following criteria:

  • National Certificate: Professional Driving (NQF Level 3)

  • Grade 12 Certificate / Standard 10

  • Minimum of 3–5 years driving experience (with proof)

  • Valid driver's licence (K53 – all codes)

  • Defensive driving certification (advantageous)

  • Medically Fit (G1-K1 Clearance)

  • Computer Literacy (MS Office)

  • TETA Statement of Results or Certificates

Become a Qualified Assessor
(Optional but Recommended)

To assess learners in an official capacity, you must also complete the unit standard:
US 115753 – Conduct Outcomes-Based Assessment

This qualification allows you to register as an assessor with TETA and work within accredited training providers like LWTS.
